28. A Cowboy, a Victorian Gentleman, and a Samurai Walk Into a Bar…
Victorian England… and the Wild West. Two distinct places, times, and ideas all of their own. Both have found a place in popular media for their distinct aesthetics and themes, but they actually existed at the same time! It’s a little nuts to think about; Victorian England, in many ways, feels properly English with the fancy clothes, emerging technology, and overall urban feel.
It is a contrast to the lawlessness of the American Wild West, where rugged survivalists lived and died by their guns and laws that they themselves made. On the surface, it doesn’t make sense, but on closer inspection… well, I personally think we need more movies where they converge.
