Clinical Notes for Nurses
Notes on Nursing, which was first released in 1859, was used by Nightingale as the foundation for the education provided at the nursing school she founded. The information contained in the book was a useful resource for a variety of people, not simply the students attending Nightingale’s nursing school.
Nightingale’s book, which she labelled “everyday sanitary knowledge,” emphasised the need for personal cleanliness while also giving the general public an introduction to the discipline of nursing. Nightingale is considered to be the founder of the nursing profession. The publication of a ground-breaking book was essential in shifting people’s perceptions of nursing in the general population. Before Nightingale developed her standardised nursing method, the vast majority of nurses had subpar training and were generally regarded as incompetent. It was common practice at British workhouses, which are institutions that provide housing and employment opportunities for the poor, for members of the workhouse population to provide medical care for sick patients.
