Deception Pass Bridge (Washington)
Even at a distance, this bridge appears to be terrifying. Both the islands of Whidbey and Fidalgo are connected by these 180-foot-tall bridges. Ferry services were essential for getting around town during this time period. Their horse and buggy would be banged up and down with a saw and a drumstick until the ferry came.
We still prefer to rely on the good fortune of the ferry even though the bridge has been completed and people can now cross it. Although the bridge is a sight to behold, its structural integrity has been called into doubt.
