A Terrible Housemate
Back to my rule: one of the problems with having business, financial, or real estate dealings with a friend is that we trust them, and so we don’t want to insist on signing a contract or putting things in writing before we allow them to borrow money, move into our house, etcetera.
That can lead you to a situation like this, where you have someone living in your house for much longer than expected. If they start doing stuff you’re not comfortable with, like threatening you, it can be harder to get rid of them because it’s not like you have a contract saying you can end the lease at any time.
