Is It Cake?
Let’s be honest – most of us are not professional pastry chefs. We may be skilled bakers… maybe we’ve made a passable tray of brownies or chocolate chip cookies…. Maybe we succeeded in combining oil, water, and eggs into a Betty Crocker yellow cake mix without drying it out completely. But at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, I’m guessing we didn’t receive a boulangerie diploma.
So, when going for a replication of a gorgeous cake you saw in a cookbook or on the internet, you’re probably just setting yourself up for failure. It’s likely to taste OK and/or be delicious, but it will never look as nice as it does in the picture. You know that cakes are edited too, don’t you? Not only actresses.
