Surprise Original Setting for Lilo and Stitch
At the time of Stitch’s conception, storyboard artist Chris Sanders imagined the plot taking place in an isolated setting. He was right. He investigated several locations, including Kansas, before settling on the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i.
Apart from the influence of the lush island terrain on the animation process and colour palette.
Sanders also learned about the Hawaiian cultural idea of ohana, which refers to the premise that family can extend beyond blood relatives and encompass friends as well as family members. Because of this, ohana becomes an important story aspect and subject throughout the film, as most fans of the film are already aware of.
