#27: What’s in a Name?
I’m always so fascinated by people who give their kids one name, knowing full well that they intend to always call them by a different one. Why not just give them the name that you intend to call them from the start?
It’s probably less confusing for the people around them, and it’s certainly less confusing for the kid. This kid, for instance, didn’t know his own name until he was eight. I’d love to know if he found out on the first day of school when the teacher was calling roll—maybe no one answered to “Jason” and then they had to get to the bottom of the mystery.
