#28: Morrison’s Cafeteria
Morrison’s Cafeterias was founded in the Southeast United States, and most of its locations were based in Florida and Georgia. Morrison’s was especially popular in Florida, thanks to the high number of retirees living there. The company operated over 150 restaurants at its peak, and it was well-known as a place for good Southern food.
Unlike, however, local customers didn’t really remain loyal to the franchise and its concept as the brand changed over the years. Morrison’s Cafeterias helped popularize the cafeteria concept, but when that buffet-style serving went out of vogue, the company went under. Morrison’s eventually sold to Piccadilly Cafeterias, once its biggest competitor, in 1998.
