#33: Workplace Psychology
Ah, the McDonald’s timers. We’ve all heard them. They often incessantly beep in the background of most McDonald’s restaurants, simultaneously soothing and annoying. Well, those timers are supposed to keep employees on schedule for frying and serving food. However, some former employees have a nagging suspicion that they are used to manipulate workflow.
Word on the fast food streets is that these fry timers move at a rate of two units per second. This fast pace is meant to make employees feel like they’re running behind schedule so they work faster. We all know that the key to surviving a food service job is to work smarter, not harder. We’re not a fan of this theory if it is actually true.
