He Worked as a Lifeguard
As a youth, Ronald Reagan worked as a lifeguard because he was so proficient at swimming. He is credited for saving the lives of a whopping 77 individuals throughout the course of his career. After becoming president, he continued to swim in the White House pool, Camp David’s swimming pools, and on his California property.
In addition, the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, presented him with a gold medallion. “Publicizing [Reagan’s] lifelong love affair with our sport may have done wonders for its development and popularity,” stated the head of the International Swimming Hall of Fame after his death.
