KISS Prepares For A Performance
As seen by this shot from 1974, KISS applied their own makeup when they first started out. While guitarist and co-lead vocalist Peter Criss works on his eye makeup, rhythm guitarist and co-lead vocalist Paul Stanley applies red lipstick.
The band formed in 1973 and gained a reputation for their outrageous stage makeup and costumes during the 1970s. They were also noted for their live performances, which included fire breathing and other acrobatics. “The Starchild” Paul Stanley, “The Demon” Gene Simmons, “Space Ace” Ace Frehley, and “The Catman” Peter Criss were all part of the initial lineup.
