#27: Leave Us Alone
Many Gen Xers grew up as latchkey kids, and that tendency toward independence and solitude has carried over into adulthood. Gen X grew up as kids whose parents worked full-time and gave them free rein during those glorious hours between 2:30 and 6:00 pm. As a result, they’re used to dealing with issues on their own instead of reaching out for help.
Self-reliance is a great characteristic to have, but many Gen Xers also don’t feel the need to complain as other generations do. They just can’t comprehend why anyone older or younger would want to talk about their problems and complain about being bored. We can’t help but wonder how future generations will be different from, or the same as, the dominant generations of today.
