One of the Most Memorable Dives of My Life
These birds were simply looking for a bite to eat. The animals, however, had suffered a deep freeze after a sudden dive beneath the surface of the water. In other words, the water was so frigid that within a few seconds of being submerged, it had frozen solid.
More than any other bird, the kingfisher is particularly vulnerable to this fate. In the northern Bavarian town of Weisendorf, a few particularly fine specimens were discovered. It’s now clear that you should tell all of your feathered friends to avoid swimming in the winter months or risk getting frozen due to the chilly temperatures!
