My Parents’ Retirement Plan
In many cultures, children are expected to care for their parents when they retire. Even though that’s not a common practice in the West, with the crumbling economy in recent years, it’s not uncommon to see parents relying on their kids as their retirement plan. Do you think it’s only fair we “pay back what they gave us,” or should it be their responsibility?
Even though this discussion draws many points of view, we can all agree it should be a decision made by the kids (when they’re adults) and not something imposed by the parents. Demanding your kids to take care of your retirement plan is insane to me. I understand the importance of “paying it back” everything our parents invested in us, but that doesn’t need to include a condo in Florida.
