Mary T. Meagher
Like the other members of Team USA, Mary T. Meagher was supposed to compete in Moscow during the 1980 Olympics but faced the harsh reality of political turmoil. Instead, her appearance was postponed to the next Summer Games, where she would win three gold medals. In Seoul, she would add a silver and bronze to her impressive collection of Olympic medals.
It would take a decade before her world records in the 100-meter and the 200-meter butterfly events were broken. The city of Louisville, where Mary was born and raised, named an entire swimming complex and a street named after her. She moved to Peachtree City, Georgia, after marrying former speed skater Mike Plant.
