Human Calculators
This may appear to be the most unusual job they have ever seen to most people. Figures had to be calculated manually in the 17th century, so individuals (usually women) were hired as human “computers” to crunch the data!
Women who worked in this field spent their days calculating each number by hand and took only brief rests here and there. Technology, fortunately, permitted them to take a break when mechanical and electrical calculators were invented.
