Telegraphist
During times of war, being able to operate a telegraph was highly valued and well compensated (or at the very least, when telegraphs were still in general usage). Telegraphers on land and sea alike were essential for providing dependable information.
The telegraph was a fast and efficient conveyor of information, as Morse code gradually became obsolete. The telegraph also served as a significant stepping stone toward many of our current communication systems.
