Toad Doctor
It’s no secret that this strange profession no longer exists; it’s one of the most unusual jobs on the list. Folk magic is to blame for “toad medicine,” which was commonplace in the 19th century. In west England, toad doctors were particularly popular.
Scrofula was a typical disease at the time. Patients were thought to be healed by putting a toad on their neck, where the illness mostly appeared. What an interesting period!
