Kansas – A Portrait Of Pomeroy
During the 1800s, Kansas experienced several significant events. One of them was when Samuel C. Pomeroy was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Kansas senator in 1859. This photo was taken just before he was sworn into office, and he served as a representative from 1861 to 1873 – a time that included the Civil War.
He was the mayor of Atchison, Kansas for a few months. He also served as the second president of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad.
